All Out War and an All-Knowing God

We really are living in interesting times. I've read Tim Shipman’s All Out War, a painstaking and detailed 600-page account of the EU referendum. Offering insights into how both sides conducted their respective campaigns, it really is something of a masterpiece of description and analysis. The first page includes a quote by David Cameron: “I don’t want Europe to define my premiership”. Bad luck, Dave. The intricacies of British politics, the hubris of its protagonists, the in-fighting, the treachery, the war in Syria and Corbyn’s leadership all united to play a part in delivering Leave’s victory. It certainly took me by surprise that June morning two years ago; according to the book, it took most campaigners by surprise too. However you voted on the day, the outcome came as no surprise to the God of Heaven:

‘The Most High is sovereign over all kingdoms on earth and gives them to anyone he wishes’ (Daniel 4:32).
