Care for Animals

I spent time this evening with Christians who look after unwanted animals. Creatures which were objects of abuse or neglect from others, are recipients of kindness and love from these folk.

Our love and compassion for animals is surely a reflection of God's for humanity. We are made in His image and so respond in His ways, albeit in a dimmer, imperfect manner. There is little wonder that the RSPCA, the world's oldest animal protection charity, was founded by evangelicals such as William Wilberforce MP.

I believe the Creator gave Adam dominion over the animal kingdom. But this was never intended to be a cruel tyranny, but godly government. As man is a little lower than the angels, so are animals beneath man in both value and dignity. Yet our righteousness is in part measured by the manner with which we deal with those within our power.
