Creeping Things and Crying Fowl

En route to a trustees’ meeting last week, I passed over Howgill Beck, between the Canine Hydro place and Robin Lane. It was dark, wet and windy, and I braked for a creature on the road above the beck. It was the size of a cat or dog, brown, had a long thick tail and similar long neck/head. It ran away from the car, attempting to gain access to a field under the gate, but failed. I drove slowly forwards, willing it off the road. It found a garden gate and ran in. It was either an otter or a mink, I know not which, and I lacked the wit to take a photo on my phone, for what it was worth.

The day after, going to the prayer meeting, the same spot was occupied by a frog jumping across the lane. I braked and waited for him to cross. On the way home, a couple of owls swept passed the car. Even in our corner of the world, the wonder of the Creator continues to amaze me:

7 Praise the Lord from the earth, ye dragons, and all deeps:

8 Fire, and hail; snow, and vapours; stormy wind fulfilling his word:

9 Mountains, and all hills; fruitful trees, and all cedars:

10 Beasts, and all cattle; creeping things, and flying fowl:

Psalm 148
