Honey Trap

I recently spent time with a former British diplomat. He has been retired some time now; he operated during the Cold War. He recounted one occasion on which he returned home from the British Embassy in Moscow to find an extremely attractive blonde lady wearing leather trousers, standing on a chair, dusting his light fittings. “Who on earth are you?”, he asked, incredulously.

“I’m your new cleaner”, she replied.

“There must be some mistake. I can’t possibly afford you”.

“Oh, I’ll clean for free”, she insisted. “I love the English so much”.

Of course, she was a KGB honey-trap, and she was dismissed accordingly.

Amusingly, he retold how he had also served in Ceaușescu’s Romania when a similar incident occurred. The woman this time was particularly unattractive, so he had less difficulty removing her, although he had to do so physically, so determined was she to stay, presumably on account of the secret camera he later discovered in the ceiling.

Hostile foreign governments would have liked nothing better than to have blackmailed Western diplomats, or extracted sensitive information from them as they relaxed and surrendered. Likewise, the enemy of our souls, while having no jurisdiction or authority over us, would dearly love to undermine our testimony and compromise our ministry. For some he uses women, for others men; sometimes it’s money, power or prestige. What earthly things do you desire? That is the honey with which Satan may seek to trap you.

And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.
