Kissing Venus, Bending Will

Last month we were treated to a special night sight, as the crescent moon ‘kissed’ Venus. The latter, a planet of our solar system, was particularly prominent and bright, and towards the end of the month, drew close to the moon. To many, the planet named after the Roman love goddess drawing close to another major feature of the sky was an apt tribute to Valentine’s month.

In reality, they were nowhere near each other. The Moon is 250,000 miles from earth, whereas Venus is a staggering 26 million miles away, sometimes as far off as 162 million miles on account of our different orbits. To our eyes last month, the two were near touching. In reality, they were millions of miles apart.

We sometimes assume our purposes are the same as God’s, because they appear to take a similar path. Let us not flatter ourselves. Let us bend our wills to His, and not assume He bends His to ours.
