What is it to Thee?

Our recent Bible Study considered the immensely interesting topics of heaven and hell. Thought-provoking questions arose such as the eternal destiny of unborn children, those with limited mental capacity and those in far off lands (or perhaps now our own) who have never heard of Christ. Can God graciously apply Christ’s blood to them despite their ignorance? Does this negate the need for evangelism? Scripture does not give clear answers about such things. Whereas I think it not wrong to weigh up such matters in light of the biblical record, it is not wholesome to draw staunch conclusions from scant material. In John 21, we read:

21 Peter seeing him [John] saith to Jesus, Lord, and what shall this man do? 22 Jesus saith unto him, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? follow thou me.

In response to such questions, the Judge of the earth will do right, but right now, it is not our business. We must be primarily concerned with the state of our own souls, making our calling and election sure. When it comes to the salvation of others, What is it to thee?
