Beyond the Storm

The views from Whitby are so wonderfully evocative. A storm which was approaching from the North Sea could be observed drawing nigh. Yet look beyond the dark clouds and the sky is blue and the sunshine bright. Above and behind every storm cloud is calm clarity; over and beyond every dark hue of sorrow and trouble remains the kindness of God. See the picture’s top left corner: there is peace beyond the storm.

Ye fearful saints, fresh courage take;

The clouds ye so much dread

Are big with mercy and shall break

In blessings on your head.

Judge not the Lord by feeble sense,

But trust Him for His grace;

Behind a frowning providence

He hides a smiling face.
