He who Blots out your Transgressions

“I, even I, am He who blots out your transgressions for My own sake; and I will not remember your sins”. Isaiah 43:25

Just a couple of sentences before Isaiah 43:25, God had been berating His people for being stingy in their sacrifices but not in their sins. Their sins and disobedience were great. And yet, hot on the heel of His rebuke is the promise of forgiveness for the glory of God as well as for the good of His people. Sins can be blotted out from God’s book, that is from His memory, by God’s hand, by His grace, and for God’s sake. What precious truths. We are blessed to be forgiven, but He does it for His own sake. In other words, God really wants intimate fellowship with us. God was anticipating the day when His Son would carry them all on Himself on the cross: ’The blood of Jesus Christ, (God’s) Son cleanses us from all sin.’ (1 John 1:7). It is fatal to forget sins that God remembers, but it is folly to remember sins that God forgets. It is only safe to forget sin that God has forgiven and forgotten.

And when I think that God His Son not sparing,
Sent Him to die - I scarce can take it in,
That on the cross my burden gladly bearing,
He bled and died to take away my sin.
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art.
