I Go to Prepare a Place for You

“Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house there many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.”  John 14:1&2

Michael Clarkson was the Professor of Vetinary Parasitology at Liverpool University. Aged 93 he ‘phoned me last week to ask if I would preach at his funeral. Yesterday, I visited him in Cheshire where he lives. Very frail, barely able to walk or string a sentence together he spoke slowly with the uttermost confidence that he would soon be with his Lord, and the Lord’s presence with him now. He was certain of heaven - and looking forward to being there with Jesus - not because of his good deeds but because of what Jesus had done for him. His parents had been militant atheists, but Michael was converted to Christ as a student, through reading John’s Gospel. Years later he saw his parents trust Jesus as their Saviour too. Thank God for the promises He makes…and always keeps. We need not fear ageing or death because the Lord will sustain us, carry us through, and enable us to bring forth fruit in each season of life.

'Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine;
Oh what a foretaste of glory divine,
Heir of salvation, purchase of God;
Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.’
                                           Amen
