Little Sins

A rather dramatic warning sign posted on the beach of Prestatyn Sands warns of rock falls. I saw no evidence of this fearsome threat being realised, but I did see a bench smothered in sand. Sand is broken rock, among other things, and can kill a man via suffocation or ingestion just as well as a shower of boulders. Big sins are obvious, and from them we can more easily flee- murder, armed robbery and genocide being among them. Yet the ‘smaller’ sins like envy, pride, gossip and bitterness may prove more lethal in the long run. They build up, perhaps slowly, without our noticing. Beware of the sand as much as the rocks.

Stand in awe, and sin not: commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah. Psalm 4:4
