Rushing Threats

"The United Kingdom announced not only the supply of tanks to Ukraine, but also shells with depleted uranium.

"If this happens, Russia will be forced to respond accordingly, given that the West collectively is already beginning to use weapons with a nuclear component."

These are the words of President Putin, darkly hinting at the use of nuclear weapons on our United Kingdom. He is of course under pressure from within and without, but a nuclear attack on Western powers is his ace card, or at least his act of final desperation. Britain would be the natural target: the nation closest to America, one of the most anti-Russian, wealthy enough to damage the entire Western economies but far enough away to limit the radiation damage to Russia herself.

It is seldom profitable to speculate about nuclear war; such predictions may cause fear and panic without containing much truth. We Christians must not become alarmed at such threats and prospects, but to quietly remind ourselves that our God is sovereign, and this old world is not our real home. Contrary to cold war pundits old and new, the world will not end in a radiation cloud but the fiery apocalypse of the Lord Jesus.

No more shall Atheists mock his long delay;
His vengeance sleeps no more, behold the day!
Behold, the Judge descends; his guards are nigh;
Tempests and fire attend him down the sky!
When God appears, all nature shall adore him;
While sinners tremble, saints rejoice before him.
