Big Wedding Breakfast

Celebrations in Wales. Gregory Cameron, the largest bishop in Christendom, has just blessed his first homosexual couple, one of whom is a clergyman in Wales (see here). ‘Father Lee’, one of the happy husbands, declared:

"It feels like we are only half way there. I would like to see the Church in Wales move forward now with same-sex marriages in church. I believe that making a covenant with our spouse in marriage is a reflection of God's own covenant with us through Jesus."

One wonders which covenant he has in mind. One also wonders which Jesus he has in mind. Presumably, not the one who says we must take up a cross, denying ourselves, when following Him. I’m guessing it isn’t the Jesus who says that anyone who gives up their houses, brethren and close relations for His sake will receive back a hundred-fold? Neither must it be the Jesus who said He never came to abolish the law and the prophets in whose face this blessing arguably flies?

I’d gain far more friends if I could write some congratulatory platitude, some simpering endorsement. Good Bishop Gregory, righteously trailblazing the way ahead against miserable traditionalist opposition, must feel greatly satisfied. The happy couple are happily coupled, their relationship endorsed by the state and now by the Church to which they belong. It is only the few who wish to remain faithful to scripture who see little cause for merriment. Though I wish all people happiness and fulfilment, including the two young men featured and their doting primate, it can’t be at the expense of truth. The Anglican Church in Wales is become apostate, and the sooner it withers away, the better.
