Bolton's Wesleyan Casino

I wonder if there exists a list of the new uses put to the various churches and chapels which have closed? The Methodist Sunday School in Barnoldswick is likely to become a mosque. The grand Wesleyan Chapel in Bolton is now the Genting Casino. It seems rather inappropriate as Wesleyans traditionally opposed all forms of gambling, from racing horses to buying raffle tickets, yet now their flagship chapel in Bolton rakes in thousands from the wagering public. Those of us who believe in God and the Christian gospel must ask ourselves why? It is one thing for a church to close, quite another for it to be dedicated to the Enemy’s use. Yet we have a precedent in scripture. In the days of Jeremiah the prophet, God anticipated abandoning Solomon’s Temple. In chapter 7 (vv11-17), we hear a complaint against those who keep talking about "the Temple of the Lord", but were evidently despising God by the way they were living. He warns them that for He shall destroy the Temple just as He once punished Shiloh, former resting place of the Ark:

Has this house, which is called by My name, become a den of thieves in your eyes? Behold, I, even I, have seen it,” says the Lord. “But go now to My place which was in Shiloh, where I set My name at the first, and see what I did to it because of the wickedness of My people Israel. And now, because you have done all these works,” says the Lord, “and I spoke to you, rising up early and speaking, but you did not hear, and I called you, but you did not answer, therefore I will do to the house which is called by My name, in which you trust, and to this place which I gave to you and your fathers, as I have done to Shiloh. And I will cast you out of My sight, as I have cast out all your brethren—the whole posterity of Ephraim. (NKJV)

Churches and chapels which deny the resurrection, deny Christ’s divinity, deny the existence of hell, deny the atoning work of the cross - from such, God withdraws. Their buildings He gives over to carnal use, for that is what they had become long before they closed - carnal and worldly, lying and deceitful. So let the Muslims possess them. Let the gamblers lose their money in them. Let the rich worship mammon inside them. In Romans 1:24, God ‘gives people over’ to uncleanness; so, too, I think their religious buildings.
