Eleven Pipers

Might the eleven pipers piping be an allusion to the eleven ‘faithful’ apostles? Judas betrayed him, while Peter, James, John, Andrew, Phillip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James, Jude, and Simon remained faithful to the end. Yet Peter had previously denied knowing Him, James and John attempted to use Him as a means to obtain personal greatness, Thomas questioned His resurrection and they all abandoned Him upon His arrest. To be faithful does not mean one never makes mistakes nor errors of judgment. This is a real relief to the likes of me who fail the Lord so often. I know that my place in heaven is reserved and guaranteed, not because of my ability to keep Him, but His ability to keep me. So keep piping.

And all the people came up after him, and the people piped with pipes, and rejoiced with great joy, so that the earth rent with the sound of them. 1 Kings 1:40
