Four Birds

Four calling birds may symbolise the authors Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, commonly called evangelists or gospel-writers. Their literary styles are distinctive: Mark writes with an urgency and brevity of one in a hurry or under pressure; Matthew with a raft of scriptural allusions and Jewish prophecies; Luke is characterised by historical detail and concern for the lowly; John writes against erroneous christologies and demonstrates his Saviour’s divine authority. Four perspectives, all valid, all true. Interestingly, Mark omits the nativity altogether and John offers a deep, theological gloss. Do not limit your appreciation of Christ to Christmas; let the four calling birds tell you how He grew, lived, died and rose that you might be reconciled to God. Keep reading!
