Hedera Honey

This Hedera or common ivy grows upon one of our chapel walls. Its flowers are plain, barely mustering a lighter shade of green to its leaves. Yet such visually-poor flowers seem to attract coachloads of honey bees. In early October, their buzzing about made the bush akin to a gigantic hive.

Biblical Christianity and evangelical churches are decreasingly attractive to modern Britain. The buildings are plain, the meetings unspectacular, the theology old fashioned. Yet they still teach God’s ancient truth as found in His word, the Bible. Other versions of 'Christianity' and spirituality might offer sugar-water or lemonade, but to feast on God’s word is to eat sweetest nectar from the plainest flowers.
