Hot Lips

This Salvia, sometimes known as 'Hot Lips', I found growing in the grounds of Belton House in Lincolnshire. In the twelfth Psalm, David complains:

They speak idly everyone with his neighbour;

With flattering lips and a double heart they speak.

He then foretells judgement of those hot lips that speak rashly and carelessly:

May the Lord cut off all flattering lips,

And the tongue that speaks proud things,

Who have said,

“With our tongue we will prevail;

Our lips are our own;

Who is lord over us?”

If the lips of the unrepentant wicked refuse to yield, the lips of the repenting sinner pour forth their thanks and praise to the God of grace:

O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth shall show forth Your praise. Psalm 51:15

With what manner of words are your lips warmed?
