Madagascan Butterfly Bush

This Nicodemia madagascariensis, better known as Madagascan butterfly bush, I found growing in one of our visiting preachers’ front gardens. Most buddleias are pink or purple, but this golden migrant hails from that African island. What a beautiful place it is, and what a fine export it gives us.

This attractive plant may be God’s blessing for Britain’s sending to that island the scriptures in 1830, which were translated into the local tongue. The Malagasy Bible is officially the oldest in Africa. The island’s Bible Society gives its four objectives:

WE TRANSLATE THE BIBLE

WE CREATE MEANS OF ACCESS

WE MAKE IT AFFORDABLE

WE ENCOURAGE BIBLE STUDY

Amen to that. This is an even more beautiful endeavour than those bright flowers swaying in a summer breeze.
