Warton Crag

Earlier in the summer, my aunt and I climbed Warton Crag in north Lancashire. At 535 feet in height it was a fair climb, and I looked forward to enjoying fine views of Morecambe Bay, the southern Lakeland fells and the Kent estuary. These were indeed worth the hike, but from the summit they could not be seen. Around the trig point, vegetation had grown, so all one could do was look up at sky. Much as I prefer to climb hills in order to look down and across, I was reminded that the closer we get to Jesus, the less inclined we are to tilt down our heads and view the tawdry affairs of this old world.

Turn your eyes upon Jesus,

Look full in His wonderful face,

And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,

In the light of His glory and grace.
