World's on Fire

As I locked the chapel last week, the sky looked like it had caught fire. Twice, in his second letter, does the Apostle Peter refer to such an event:

But the heavens and the earth which are now preserved by the same word, are reserved for fire until the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. 2 Peter 3:7

…looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat? 2 Peter 3:12 (both NKJV)

This is no moving sunset or curious cloud-play, but the destruction of the earth as we know it. The earth will certainly not last forever. It will not be a meteor or our excessive use of log fires that hasten its demise, but the worn patience of a righteous God. So heed the gospel’s message, and seek refuge in His Son.
