Another Place

Anthony Gormley’s Another Place installation at Crosby is something I rather like. It constitutes a hundred iron men, looking and walking into the sea, and I find it wonderfully moving. Yet in the last couple of years, a number of the poor chaps have fallen into the very sea in which they were standing; their concrete bases had decayed away. Gormley said he  expects them to be appreciated for the next millennium. Wonderful though it is, I doubt his wish will be granted. All our achievements, be they artistic, economic, technological or biological, are disintegrating. The tides of time erode their permanence, sweeping them away. Only Christ and that which we do for him will survive the coming flood.

And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.1 John 2:17
