Christ Church, Heaton Norris

Christ Church, which stands on Wellington Road North and Church Road at Heaton Norris, Stockport, has to be one of the most elegant structures in the district. Sadly, it is described as ‘mostly demolished’, to which the daylight, pouring out of the windows, cheerfully testifies. Dating to the mid-1840s, it was declared redundant in the early 1970s, and suffered further demolition that decade on account of fire. So it looks like a church, but no Christians meet there; it looks like a church, but no-one shelters there; it looks like a church, but Christ joins with no disciples there.

There are many organisations and enterprises about the land which look like churches. They usually meet under roofs and might even sing Christian songs and open up Bibles. There, some prophesy in His name and even cast our devils and perform miracles...

-but they aren’t churches.

"And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you'." Matthew 7:23a
