Dogliness & Contentment

Mark Twain said “The more I learn about people, the more I like my dog.” Little wonder that dog is a man’s best friend; he is faithful and loyal, but also content with the smallest of things. Observe Tom Dog entertaining himself with a large stick on the front lawn (above).

Next, observe him in the River Beauly, splashing with his paws and then attempting to catch the water in his mouth. Happy as Larry. Would that life’s simple pleasures offered us as much delight, without our complicating everything and wanting better. I am not suggesting we should all enjoy chewing sticks and biting rivers, but let us be grateful and content for the simple pleasures that God’s good providence supplies.

But godliness is great gain, if a man be content with that he hath. 1 Timothy 6:6
