Gift Cards for the Pastor

A number of persons received an email from ‘Pastor Alan Marsden’ while I was away. The sender desired some Google Gift Cards purchasing. Thankfully, the recipients were smart enough to realise it was a fraudulent request from a scammer. Had he been even cleverer or they more gullible, it might have worked.

He or she clearly went to some trouble. From either the chapel magazine, or, more likely, this website, he recorded my name and located some email addresses. That took some skill and time. On this occasion it failed, but the next target may be more lucrative.

Still, the person who did it is a fool. This website is awash with explanations of the gospel, the very roadmap to heaven. Instead of seeking his own salvation, he merely snooped around for personal details; instead of seeking the eternal riches that could so easily be his, he thought only of stealing the temporal, which he could not keep. And that is why our fraudster friend is clever, yet the biggest fool there is.

For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Matthew 16:26
