Holy Innocents Church, Broughton Mills

Holy Innocents Church at Broughton Mills in Cumbria is a simple affairs, a green-painted porch and attached clock giving it slight air of individualism. Its name, which I would normally associate with a Roman Church, refers to the slain children of Bethlehem, those first heralds of two thousand years’ worth of persecutions of Christianity. Although it was clean and plain within, I rather liked it, and thought it an Anglican building in which I should enjoy worshipping.
A sign without written in chalk bade entry, concluding that one should come in not because the church offered invitation but the “the Lord Himself”. Indeed, indeed! The church and its members may engage in evangelism, but it is the Lord’s message, the Lord’s salvation and the Lord’s purpose. It is the Lord Jesus Himself who calls you.

All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him. Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. Matthew 11:27-29
