Law's Letter

While seeking churches to inspect in Stockport, I came across these cars. Are they breaking the law? They are not parked on the double yellow lines, not technically, anyway. They block the pavement, certainly, and fatter pedestrians would be unable to pass them without walking on the road.

We sometimes distinguish between keeping the 'letter' of the law and the 'spirit' of the law. Both phrases and maxims have been used to justify sin, while the photo suggests that the car owners have observed the letter but not the spirit. We should be careful when it comes to interpreting rules, especially those in God’s word, for we shall be held accountable by One who knows both the law and our hearts.
