Lessons from a blackbird

The birds were showing a lot of interest in the berries on the pyracantha this morning.  One of the blackbirds seemed to be either a scribe or a Pharisee – he neither wanted to eat the berries himself or wanted anyone else to eat them!

Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites!  For you shut up the kingdom of heaven against men; for you neither go in yourselves, nor do you allow those who are entering to go in.

Of course, he might just have thought they were his berries and he didn’t want to share…

But do not forget to do good and to share, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.

Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.
