Oude Kerk, Scheveningen

Oude Kerk at Scheveningen, translated Old Church, is a well-appointed, fifteenth-century construction in one of The Hague’s northern districts close to the sea. Its belltower gives the pleasantly light, melodic ring for which the Low Countries’ churches are famous. At the year’s start, a new bell was hung in the tower by the Royal Eijsbouts bell foundry. Upon it is written, in Dutch:

EVERYTHING IS READY, COME TO THE WEDDING

Although the Old Church likely does a roaring trade is weddings, a better application is the great wedding banquet of the Lamb. The Great God has found a way of again uniting fallen people to Himself, and calls those He redeems His Bride. Although some would try and sneak in, apparelled not in the correct wedding garments, the invitation is still given to all. Everything is ready: come to the wedding.

‘Therefore go into the highways, and as many as you find, invite to the wedding.’ So those servants went out into the highways and gathered together all whom they found, both bad and good. And the wedding hall was filled with guests.
