Sitting (2007)
Sophie Ryder’s Sitting (2007, wire) is a sculpture of a gigantic hare, which appears to have a woman’s body. Wire is a difficult medium with which to create, especially on this scale. Curiously, the figure is bisected, so one may view the landscape through its middle. Those familiar with the Yorkshire Sculpture Park in which it sits will vouch for the surrounding countryside being worth the viewing.
We Christians are the ambassadors and heralds of Christ Jesus. Too often we obscure Him or misdirect those who would view Him. As well as being more visible in this godless age, pray also that we may be more transparent so that Christ Jesus is clearly discerned and advertised in all we think and speak and say:
My talents, gifts and graces, Lord,
Into Thy blessèd hands receive,
And let me live to preach Thy Word,
And let me to Thy glory live;
My every sacred moment spend
In publishing the sinners’ Friend.
