Tartin Mop: No to Heaven's Imperialism!

Christians like we at Ichabod Chapel who are part of the great liberal theological tradition have objected to the existence of hell for nearly 80 years now. Punishment? Fire? Divine anger? These are all ludicrous relics from a previous age; no intelligent Christian could still believe them. However, we wish to go a step further and object to the existence of heaven, too. Dishing out rewards and offering eternal bounty is, quite frankly, plain imperialism. Why should one 'being' have the right to make other beings happy? Why should just one individual live in a nice place, even if he/she does allegedly wish to share it?'

Rejection of hell is so passé; let’s go further, and reject heaven, too. Imperialism and inequality in this world will only end when we remove it from the next world. No hell, no heaven! We will not benefit or derive satisfaction from an understanding of God which relegates us to powerless recipients! No to paradise!

Yours Wokely,
