All Saints’ Church, Earby
An online source states that All Saints’ Church in Earby is Grade 1 Listed, which is something I very much doubt. It is a late Edwardian construction and lacks almost any distinguishing features other than some unusually large windows at the front. The door was locked so an internal inspection was prevented.
To the rear, however, and one sees what appears to be a blocked-up window or door (above). Along the outer, north wall, a similar pattern may also be seen (below). Was there a change of heart about how much light they wanted after the building project had begun? Or is this some attempt to give it an air of age and antiquity, when the era of mass production and communication was already upon them?
Teenagers attempt to look older than they are, and dress and paint themselves like ‘adults’. Some older people dress too young, as though not quite willing to concede that time has passed and they are now the same age as their grannies were during their younger years. The young want to be old, and the old want to be young. In heaven, somehow, I think we shall combine all the energy, enthusiasm and energy of youth with the wisdom, sagacity and maturity of age.
And I say to you that many will come from east and west, and sit down with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 8:11, NKJV
Of the resurrected body's condition, CHH Parry wrote that it would be '...serene in ageless prime'.
