All Saints', Worcester
All Saints’ Church in Worcester is one of those 'contemporary', charismatic Anglican congregations which meets in an old, and archaic-looking building. The opening line of its website states:
We are an Anglican church in the centre of Worcester, committed to playing our part in the Diocese of Worcester and the New Wine family of churches.
Although Worcester diocese may be better than some of its fellows, and it may boast the best-looking bishop in the Church of England, there are existential conflicts brewing in that national body. Its commitment to historic orthodoxy, as perhaps pictured by All Saints' Georgian building, will be challenged by an increasingly heterodox and crooked episcopate. Sadly, Bishop Nelson of Worcester voted in favour of same-sex blessing proposals after the debate on Living in Love and Faith, demonstrating a most unattractive theological outlook.
The charismatic ‘wing’ of the C of E has so far been faithful to scripture regarding sexual ethics, though ‘progressive’ blogger Colin Coward noted only last month that he detected a softening in charismatic Anglican congregations towards things LGBTQ+. Raising one’s arms aloft during music, listening for prophetic insights and singing nothing written before 2020 is fine, but those who really wish to honour the Spirit of Truth will do so by conforming to His inspired, written words, not feelings, emotions, sympathies and movements. I hope All Saints’ will always remain saints.
Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours. 1 Cor. 1:2
Its current address is Broad Street. Time will tell how apt this is.
