All we like Sheep have gone astray

I preached on Isaiah 53 this weekend, with its famous lines 'All we like sheep have gone astray'. On the journey home from chapel tonight, the lane was blocked by two sheep that had seen fit to wander off. Why do sheep wander off? Well I suspect they're not as stupid as people think, but wandering off from a safe field is not the brainiest courses of action. Why do believers wander off? Why did the human race wander off?

Isaiah gives us the solution:

All we like sheep have gone astray;
we have turned every one to his own way;
and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.

Christ the sin-Bearer paid the penalty for our wanderings, backslidings and rebellion. I hope those two lost sheep are found and are safely returned. I hope the lost sheep reading this will do likewise.
