Blindman’s Lane

I passed by this lane on a recent foray into west Lancashire. It’s now just a rat run between Southport Road and the road to Halsall village. There’s little there; how it came by this enigmatic label, one cannot tell.

Of the Pharisees, the religious leaders of His day, Jesus remarked:

“They are blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind leads the blind, both will fall into a ditch.” (Matthew 15:14)

Most of the paths and streets down which we humans walk are Blindman’s Lane. The destination unknown, the direction travelled unguessed, the safety of the journey unquestioned. Little wonder the early Christians termed their faith ‘The Way’.
