Cambridge Dictionary: Newspeak Women
We assume that people who write dictionaries are clever and truthful. Some appear foolish and deceitful. The online Cambridge Dictionary recently added a supplementary definition of woman:
‘an adult who lives and identifies as female though they may have been said to have a different sex at birth’.
It helpfully offers two sentences in which the new definition may be used:
She was the first trans woman elected to a national office.
Mary is a woman who was assigned male at birth.
I have created a supplemental definition of 'dictionary' to assist my lexicographical friends:
A book which changes the meaning of words to help its authors promote fashionable ideology.
