Common Spotted Orchid

I find orchids difficult to grow. Most curl up and die; the one success I had flowered for three years continuously before dying of apparent exhaustion. I know one successful orchid-grower who literally takes them all to the bathroom and bathes each one’s roots out of the pot before returning them to their place by the windows. Treating them like toddlers is going too far! Still, he has a house full of thriving orchids, and I do not.

The picture above is a common spotted orchid which I found growing in the wild. It needs no help from gardeners, and certainly no weekly bath night. This is because it is growing where it is meant to be; the specimens in my house would prefer some equatorial jungle rather than a terraced house in the north of England.

Many humans suffer depression, anxiety, stress and illness because this fallen, wicked world is not our natural environment. We were designed to have direct fellowship with God. Without Him, we turn brown and die, or go soggy and droop. In heaven/New Jerusalem, we shall thrive and prosper, for we will be in the habitat for which we were created.

“Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.” Rev. 21:304 (NKJV)
