The End of Labour & the Tories

The current migrant crisis and a whole host of other problems could have a permanent effect from the next general election. If the polls are anything to go by (and I would usually argue that they aren’t) the Conservative Party and Labour Party (which have dominated British politics since 1834 and 1924 respectively) are going to be relegated to third and fourth places. Reform is likely to hoover up the voters of the right and centre, potentially destroying the Conservatives, and Jeremy Corbyn’s new party (which currently appears to lack a name) could well sap Labour’s core support and maim its electoral fortunes.

I have no love for either of these parties which have been in power since the Second World War. On moral issues they are both poor, and their economic management has left much to be desired. Neither has managed to protect our borders and uphold moral standards; I suspect that the judgement of Almighty God will fall upon both. Satisfying though this may be, the two new parties vying to rise from their corpses may prove just as unpleasant in the long run.

Interestingly, the 'polarisation' which has characterised US politics may now have arrived here. This refers to the Republicans' drift to the right and the Democrats' to the left, the relatively depopulated centre ground being served by neither. This means that politics is likely to be more fractious, more divisive and less friendly. Perhaps it has always been like this, but I suspect it is going to get worse. His Majesty’s current government has until 15th August, 2029 to gets its act together and prove its mettle. The polls will likely change, but many, I suspect, have already made up their minds. The further we drift from our Christian foundations and Biblical assumptions, the nastier, more dangerous and more broken this nation will become. May God have mercy on this wicked land.

Even from the days of your fathers ye are gone away from mine ordinances, and have not kept them. Return unto me, and I will return unto you, saith the Lord of hosts. Malachi 3:7a
