Nether Kellet Congregational Church

I took the harvest festival service at Nether Kellet Congregational chapel last Saturday. Nether Kellet is a picturesque village in Lancashire's Lune Valley. The church was close to full and there were singers was Garsdale (I’ve no idea where this is); an amazingly good supper provided in the church hall followed afterwards.

This chapel is a good example of flourishing evangelical Congregationalism. The Church was founded by a lady, Miss Elizabeth Bateson, who wished to reform the village which had then a rough reputation back in the 1840s. A memorial to her hangs behind the pupit, erected at her death in 1889, she having done much to improve the place.
