Owl not be Deceived

I was returning home from the Bible Study a fortnight ago at about 9.50pm. My bicycle’s light picked up an object in the road. It was narrower at the top than the bottom so I thought someone had stuck a cone in some pothole as a warning to drivers. Yet I could recall no such object on my journey there that morning. As I approached, I saw that it was an owl, staring up at me. I instinctively stopped next to him, which persuaded him to immediately fly off. I have had several encounters with owls on my comings and goings from Salem Chapel but never have I come close to hitting one, unlike bats. One wonders why he felt the need to land on tarmac when he wasn’t catching a mouse, and nor why he remained there till I drew up to him. I wonder if my light either dazzled or fascinated; when he realised it was just a bloke, he scarpered.

Satan is described by Paul as being transformed (or masquerading) as an ‘angel of light’. This seems quite a volte-face for the Prince of Darkness, but he can turn on the charm and quote the scriptures when it suits him. The citation from 2 Corinthians 11:14 indicates that he beguiles with false teaching, his artificial, fake light deceiving the gullible into thinking he speaks truth and brings revelations from God himself. That owl might have thought that a star or comet was approaching him (I doubt it, really), but it was just a USB-powered bicycle light made in China. Do not be fooled by the various rays of ‘light’ brought by angels in Arabia and Utah, nor by prophets and seers in our own land. Live by the clear light of God’s own word, and the dim flickerings of Satan will be seen for what they are.

We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts. 2 Peter 1:19
