Sheikh-Up Call

Some person pinned up a business card in the male lavatories at my place of work. An Islamic ‘international spiritual healer’ called Sheikh Imam offers to help with a range of issues and gripes, including:

Depression

Addiction

Impotency

Demonic forces

Anti-Social behaviour in people

Job Interview

Stress

Exams

Marriage

-to list but a few. Is there no end to this man’s talents? He goes on: "Quick results 100% guaranteed". 100 per cent of what is not exactly clear. "Pay after result’" he coos. Why would not someone with this vast array of skills not offer help for free? To cure a man’s depression, impotency and failing marriage in one fell swoop would surely bring reward enough. Crooks and charlatans offer much, charge much and deliver little. The Lord Jesus promises relatively little, yet bestows much indeed. He doesn’t cure every illness and some remain impotent. He doesn’t guarantee you that job, nor to cure disagreeable work colleagues. Yet what He offers comes free of all charge:

Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread? and your labour for that which satisfieth not? hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness. Isaiah 55:2

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16
