St Catherine’s, Eskdale

St Catherine’s Church in Eskdale, Cumbria, had a sign without claiming that it was open. Alas, it was not true. Whether the sign, which was permanent, could not take into account the occasions when it must be locked, or whether some event was taking place for which people were setting up, I was not sure.
The sign upon the churches in the zones of persecution says ‘closed’, but in many places, the congregations of Jesus Christ are thriving. In the godless West, many churches are just social gatherings. The signs might say ‘open’, but the gospel is not preached; I think they really closed down years ago.
Don’t always trust the sign.
I know thy works: behold I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my Name. Revelation 3:8, Geneva Bible
