St Paul's Cathedral Nightclub

The leadership of St Paul’s Cathedral, London, has signed a four-year deal with an entertainment company to use the church building as a nightclub. As well as exposing its clergy as money-grubbing, it demonstrates the spiritual decay of our nation and state church when it comes to this. I have already written about my visit to the cathedral some years ago when I was disappointed with its diminished Christianity and exorbitant admission charge. Insipid theology is one thing, but handing over your buildings for carnal dancing and godless music is another. Then again, how many other churches are used for concert venues? Beethoven might be classier than the sounds echoing off St Paul’s walls later this month, but Anglican and nonconformist churches have been selling themselves for mammon for decades.

While the shadow of Islam grows and every pagan religion prospers, while parish churches close and progressive parodies occupy pulpits, while young people desperately seek meaning and older people risk being euthanised, the Dean of St Paul’s prostitutes his sacred space for filthy lucre. According to CDM Press, London's Muslim Mayor, Sadiq Khan, 'celebrated' the partnership.

I bet he did.
