Versailles and the end of the French Monarchy

The second episode of the second series of Versailles has King Louis XIV walking around his palace at night when a chandelier falls, nearly missing him. His bishop reproves him the following morning, suggesting that it was God loosening his ceiling fittings to warn Louis of continuing his serial adultery. Louis, seldom a man to receive rebuke, points out that his 25k strong army is attempting to destroy Protestant Holland. Surely, says the king, God must bestow his approval. His court is a mass of selfish, pleasure-seeking orgies, drug taking and violence.

Little wonder God saw fit to eradicate this monarchy within a couple of generations.

"All kings shall fall before him" Psalm 72:11.
