Winter Trinity

The Winter Triangle can most clearly be seen in the crisp skies of a British January. This is where the bright stars Sirius, Betelgeuse and Procyon appear to form an equilateral triangle. Other bright stars shine close by, illuminating the triangle’s boundaries. Although they may all be observed at other times of year, in January, we see them together.

I cannot fully understand the trinity. There is one God yet He has three persons, distinct yet co-equal and eternal. My poor grasp of divinity does not detract from the Bible’s clear teaching. The cults and religions that deny it must needs demote the Lord Jesus to angel, demi-god or prophet. The Spirit is written off as mere power or energy; the Father becomes a loveless, lone entity before He chooses to create humans and angels. When we turn off the lights and peer into the darkness, relying alone on scripture’s starlight, we see them- clearly.

Your throne, O God, is forever and ever;

A sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of Your kingdom.

You love righteousness and hate wickedness;

Therefore God, Your God, has anointed You

With the oil of gladness more than Your companions Psalm 45:6-7
