Archbishopess: No Hierarchies, Please.

'God is not in the business of hierarchies’, ran a November headline of the Church Times. It was a quote from the recently installed Archbishop of Wales and practising lesbian, Cherry Vann. This statement was made at her ‘enthronement’ as Archbishop, the principal Anglican cleric in the principality of Wales. ‘Bishop’, ‘Archbishop’, ‘Throne’ and ‘Primate’ are terms that all smack of hierarchy and each one is applied to Vann. Furthermore, she belongs to a denomination which teaches that only ordained persons in ‘holy orders’ may preside at communion, many of whom call themselves priests, with a whole pyramid of ranks between top and bottom, from simple ‘priest’ to ‘archbishop’.

Religious (and political) liberals often have the simpering smiles and the soothing soundbites, but theirs is a theology of hypocrisy, a practice of pretence, a doctrine of duplicity.

But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light. 1 Peter 2:9
