While seeking churches to inspect in Stockport, I came across these cars. Are they breaking the law? They are not parked on the double yellow lines, not technically, anyway. They block the pavement, certainly, and fatter pedestrians would be unable to pass them without walking on the road.

St Andrew’s Church in the Lincolnshire village of Apley has to be one of the smallest in the county. A cheerful little Victorian edifice from 1871, it may once have served as a mortuary chapel where corpses were stored ahead of burials. An older church nearby was demolished and that which was dedicated to the dead became a place of fellowship for the living.

St Peter's Church, Chesil, in the Hampshire city of Winchester, is one of those older churches which has been put to secular use. I don’t particularly mind this and find it less offensive than converting into a non-Christian shrine or a carpark. It is now known as the Chesil Theatre, the home of the Winchester Dramatic Society. I rather like the look of it.

I came across these men of African descent engaged in evangelism in Leicester this year. They had complained that the staff from the City Council had ‘moved them on’ to this quieter spot, away from the busy streets. One of them sardonically observed to me that the local Muslim evangelists were seemingly exempt from any Council objections, whose stalls occupied the best positions.
