Cerastium tomentosum, better known as snow-in-summer, is native to Italy but has proved successful in flourishing across the globe. I grew it from seed last year, and this spring it rewarded me with attractive white flowers, cascading down the water butt upon which I had placed it. Its name instantly reminded me of Proverbs 26:1:

I was pleased to see the British Embassy to the Netherlands at The Hague last summer. I had no business there, I merely wished to view it. Its architecture looks wonderfully British, which it isn’t, and its large windows lend it a sense of purpose and dignity. Here is a little piece of our kingdom within the territory of another.
